The SENIORDRIVING.AAA.COM website helps seniors drive safer and longer, by providing numerous resources to help everyone involved in the driving decision. This user-friendly website provides resource sections to help:
- Evaluate driving ability - self-rating tool, interactive driving evaluation, and professional assessment;
- Understand mind and body changes - vision, hearing, mind & cognition, medical conditions & medications, and reaction times;
- Learn to improve your driving skills - preparation, handling unexpected situations, and driving in bad weather; and
- Maintain mobility & independence - car buying, maintenance, assistive technology, driver improvement courses, keeping your mind and body fit, and learning other ways to get around.
The site also provides a Tools & Additional Resources section which includes some of the following valuable resources that are downloadable:
- Drivers 65+: Check Your Own Performance is a complete self-rating form of questions, facts and suggestions for improving your safe driving;
- NHTSA - Driving When You Have Diabetes is a brochure describing how changes related to diabetes affect safe driving, and provides guidance on staying safe or transitioning from driving; and
- NHTSA - Driving When You Have Cataracts is a brochure describing how changes related to cataracts affect safe driving, and provides guidance on staying safe or transitioning from driving.
In addition, the website has a Resources for Family & Friends section providing information on when to be concerned, tips for discussing safe driving concerns with a loved one, and understanding transportation options when a senior is no longer able to drive.
